5 Easy Steps To Design An Autumn Leaf Table Display

Crafts & Home Decor, Floral Design

Cool crisp air + autumn leaves raining from trees = invigorating afternoon for designing. This is the magic formula for creating an autumn leaf table display.

Creating anything artistic calls to the heart of who I am, especially creating an arrangement that will make my home (or my sister’s home in this instance) more inviting. There is something satisfying in my soul to know that even my Thanksgiving table can be a place for self expression.  Plus this is an inexpensive way to have fresh elements adorning my Thanksgiving table.  You can make one too!

Here’s how in 5 easy steps:

Step 1: Soak 3 blocks of floral foam in water.  Place on the table a few inches apart.  Make sure to place foil underneath to protect the table.

Step 2: Begin by poking stems into the foam.  I like to get a mix of different types of leaves and colors so that the red, greens and yellows are evenly dispersed throughout the arrangement.

Step 3: Keep tucking leaves into the foam.  I cut larger sections of leaves with longer stems to stretch from one foam block to another.  This gives the effect of one long arrangement.

Step 4: Keep adding in leaves, leaf by leaf.  I walk around the table numerous times checking for any holes where I can see foam.  I pay special attention to the sides where the foil underneath the foam might show through.

Step 5: Add the finishing touches.  In this case, I added little maple leaves to each plate to tie in the entire table.

Does your heart palpitate watching the leaves shimmer in the autumn afternoon light?  Well clip a few and create a table arrangement with me.

Did you try this arrangement?  Tag it on Instagram with the hashtag #MMLCREATES and let me know how it went.

    Tips:

When gathering leaves, you will want to get about a tall kitchen trash bag (13 gallon one) full of leaves.  That will most likely get you plenty to work with.

Fresh leaves only last 1-2 days before they begin looking crispy and drying out.

Let me know if you need any advice about making it when you get started. I had fun collecting my leaves from the trees. It is a great conversation starter for your guests.
