I convinced my friend Rachel that I needed to decorate her table for Halloween. She eagerly agreed. It was about 2 days before Halloween, so I hit the craft stores and luckily found many Halloween items already deeply discounted, at least half off. Woo hoo!
After I hit the craft stores, the grocery store was next on my route. I came across these baby zebra striped pumpkins. They spoke to me and told me they needed to be included in my spooky Halloween table.
What Halloween table display is complete without a bowl full of eyeballs? These happen to be styrofoam that I picked up for about $1.00. Getting them to stay in place with the pupil side up so I could photograph them was a monumental feat like asking cats to sit still while a mouse runs by their paws.
Believe it or not, this skull is styrofoam too. Oh, and the eyeballs just happen to fit the eye socket perfectly! It made for a much more interesting detailed skull shot to have eyeballs squished in.
Manzanita branches make everything a bit more twisted, in the best sense of the word. You can find your own branches here. I happen to have some on hand because I own a wedding flower business and occasionally I need a wood element to decorate with.
Rachel’s kitchen is designed with a side buffet cabinet. Of course we had to decorate that too.
Red food coloring in water made up our “potion”. The three tiered hors d’oeuvre tray displays candy corn, more googly eye balls, and zebra pumpkins. Sip anyone? It’s to die for.
Golden autumn leaves silhouetted against the sunlight add color and vibrant life to our other dark and scary decorating elements. See this post for more ideas on how to decorate with autumn leaves.
Rachel’s cat Chief was there the entire time overseeing the production, although he was a little camera shy. If I got too close with my camera, he would scamper away.

My favorite element on the table was the skull. The bright leaves also added a special fall touch. I liked how simple everything was. Laid together, the spooky table looked like a success.
