    DIY Mini Pumpkin Arrangements

    Floral Design

Have you ever seen adorable mini arrangements nestled inside a pumpkin? Me too, and I think they are cute. In this post, I am going to show you how to make them.

Every year I look forward to October, November, and December because that means family gatherings and decorations. Thanksgiving evokes an inward month of reflection, and I try and truly count my blessings and be thankful for each one.

Little mini pumpkins with delicate flower arrangements are perfect for your Thanksgiving table. Make multiple arrangements and add candles or other small decor items that easily fit in between turkey and side dishes.

The flowers that I used in these arrangements include:
    rose
    cushion mums
    solidago
    ranunculus
    craspedia
    monte casino
    seeded eucalyptus
    nandina leaves
    lisianthus

    Steps to assemble arrangements:

#1 Cut the top off and scoop out the flesh, seeds, and pulp. The skin is surprisingly sturdy, so a serrated knife works best, preferably a little one that comes in a pumpkin carving kit. It is handy to have paper towels or newspaper to have a place to dump seeds and pulp.

#2 Add foam. You won’t need that much. These ornamental pumpkins offer little holes, after all. If you feel like the flowers will need it, add a little water to the bottom of the pumpkin.

#3 Tuck in flowers. It doesn’t take too many blooms, because each arrangement is so tiny. Be careful of the delicate blossoms, they can get squished easily. When you are shopping for blooms, I suggest you look for smaller heads of flowers. A rose would be the biggest bloom that would work. Don’t forget a filler flower like the solidago, monte casino, or baby’s breath. The leaves and foliage you could most likely forage from your backyard bushes or use the foliage that comes on the purchased flowers.

#4 Make multiple arrangements. These are much cuter in groupings, so plan on making more than one. The effect is much more dazzling.

The next time you are at the grocery store or farmer’s market, or even the pumpkin patch, be sure to pick up some ornamental pumpkins or squash.

In case you were wondering what to serve next to your DIY mini pumpkin arrangement, this Easy Pumpkin Pound Cake (pictured) is a cinch to make and always turns out moist and fluffy.

I enjoyed writing this post and making each little arrangement. For a lot of my life, yellow was my favorite color. Each little flower in these pumpkins danced with yellow happiness.

When I was growing up, yellow was my favorite color. I painted my room yellow. I owned a yellow jacket. In my 20’s, all my diving gear had yellow accents. If there was a rainbow of crayons to choose from, yellow was the first one I picked up.

Today yellow still speaks to me but in different ways. I don’t have yellow walls in my house, but a field of waving prairie grass or ocher wildflowers dotting a landscape is a metaphor for me. It shouts that it is a field of gold. That field is full of possibilities. A golden field is full of promise and potential where I can throw my dreams out there and sprinkle them with hope and determination. I can then watch them grow and chase them.
