I love crafting with my kids. This week a winter storm swept across Oklahoma. This snow was a news-making event because we don’t get frozen precipitation that often. But, uh oh, we were stuck indoors twiddling our thumbs.
I decided this was the perfect time to decorate the house with paper heart chains for Valentine’s Day. Making this paper heart chain may look complicated, but let me reassure you, it ain’t! So grab a pair of scissors, some tissue paper, and keep on reading!
Cut the tissue paper (or any kind of paper) the length of the paper by 3″ wide. If you use a heavier paper, make sure your scissors are sharp to cut through that many layers of paper.
Fold it like a fan back and forth for the length of the paper. Each fold should match the width of the one before it. The width of the folds is how wide the heart will be.
After you have the accordion fan folding finished, holding it all together, fold it again.
Trim the top of the heart. Be careful to NOT cut the whole edge. Leave some of the paper untouched along the edge.
Cut the bottom of the heart.
Make sure to NOT cut this section of the paper. This is what will make the “chain” and keep all of the hearts held together.
Trim out the inside if you want your hearts to look extra delicate.
Once you are finished with all of the cuts, you are now ready to open your chain. Congratulations! That is the most exciting part!
