Usually, this time of year for me is a little depressing. By this time, the major holidays are over. The smells of Thanksgiving turkey have faded, and the twinkle lights of Christmas are unplugged. What has replaced family gatherings is winter sickness and endless stretches of cold weather. This year, however, is different because of all of my Valentine’s Day preparations. In the past, I haven’t done much decorating, but “My Mayberry Lane” has invigorated my efforts. Now each room is dotted with bits of red and lots of love.
My Christmas tree has been replaced by my Valentine’s Day Tree. Now all I need are little twinkle lights to dispel the cold weather.
I combed the forest (alright, I confess, my backyard) for the perfect branches to break apart to form my tree.
Then I stuffed a favorite vase of mine I use for wedding arrangements with a block of foam. I wedged in two small pieces so the foam would hold be tight enough to hold all of the branches. If you are interested in seeing more about my floral arrangements, click here.
See step by step how I made my tree.
Once you have your tree assembled, decorate it with your favorite hearts.
Ideas for hearts:
yarn
old quilts
memento fabric like baby blankets
So warm your heart up to the idea of making a DIY Valentine’s Day Heart Tree.
This time of year is a delightful time to celebrate the love in my family. My grandparent’s loved each other with a patient kind of love. I am so thankful for their vow of marriage that lasted over 60 years- what an example! I arranged these valentines around their wedding photo. The above picture (by the arrow) shows a valentine my grandfather wrote to his friend in 1933. I laughed because his handwriting was still scrawly late in his life.
